LTC Handgun Proficiency Exam

(Shooting portion only)

Course Requirements

  • A total of 50 rounds are fired during the course of the qualification test.
  • A score of 70%, or 175 points of a possible 250, is required to pass.
  • The target used is a B-27 which is a human-shaped silhouette.
  • All shooting is from the ready position.
  • NO DRAWING FROM THE HOLSTER OR SHOOTING FROM CONCEALED IS REQUIRED OR ALLOWED.
  • Hearing and eye protection are required.
  • NO magnified scopes or lasers are allowed, red dots ARE allowed.

The Course of Fire

3 yard line – 20 shots:

  • 1 shot in 2 seconds, 5 times
  • 2 shots in 3 seconds, 5 times
  • 5 shots in 10 seconds, once

7 yard line – 20 shots:

  • 5 shots in 10 seconds, once
  • 1 shot in 3 seconds, 5 times
  • 2 shots in 4 seconds, once
  • 3 shots in 6 seconds, once
  • 5 shots in 15 seconds, once
  •  

15 yard line – 10 shots:

  • 2 shots in 6 seconds, once
  • 3 shots in 9 seconds, once
  • 5 shots in 15 seconds, once

Scoring:

Scoring for the LTC proficiency exam is a standardized scoring system.

X,10,9 and 8 rings = 5 points

7 ring = 4 points

Anything outside the 7 ring and ON silhouette = 3 points

Off silhouette or target = 0 points

held rounds or non-fired rounds = 0 points

170/250 is minimum requirement to pass

Class expectations:

Students must come prepared to class, that includes being physically prepared and having the proper equipment.

  • Hearing and eye protection, full length pants, a high neckline shirt and closed toe shoes are required. A ball cap of some sort would also not be a bad idea.
  • One handgun (revolver or semi-automatic) in a configuration that qualifies. (If you do not have a handgun, we have them for rent for a fee)
  • One EMPTY magazine (If the student is shooting a semi-automatic handgun)
  • At least 50 rounds of ammunition in the caliber that matches your firearm.
  • Student is ALLOWED to use a speed loader if they need to.

If students show up to class unprepared to shoot or demonstrates that they cannot perform the proficiency portion of the LTC class in a safe manner then they will be asked to leave.

 

NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN IF YOU ARE ASKED TO LEAVE DUE TO A SAFETY VIOLATION.
